A Fantastic February Awaits at The Clayton Center

In the past week, we have hosted a sold-out show by the wildly funny humorist Jeanne Robertson, a very well-attended Clayton Wedding Expo, the successful winter booking meeting of the North Carolina Presenters Consortium, and the annual awards banquet for the Clayton Chamber of Commerce. These events prove that there truly is always something going on here at The Clayton Center!

February may be the shortest month of the year, but it’s also long on entertainment and other activities at The Clayton Center. The fun begins this Saturday night, January 31, when Granite Lodge 191 of Clayton will host its annual Father-Daughter Dafather daughter dance the clayton centernce in the Main Lobby. Tickets are $40 per “couple” and are available at GI Joe’s on Highway Business 70 or Annie V’s Florist on Barbour Street in downtown Clayton. Light refreshments will be served. There also will be a DJ and dancing, and each couple receives a free 4 x 6 Photo from 1000 Words Photography. For more information, call Russell Ragland at 919-663-6499.

On Saturday, February 7, the Malpass Brothers come to town. These Goldsboro boys bridge the gap between traditional country and rockabilly in their look and style, taking us back to the day before rock and country went their separate ways. Their energetic performing style and passion for this heritage American music make a unique experience. Drawing from their family’s love of early country music, Taylor and Christopher Malpass channel the sound of musical greats like Hank Williams, Sr., Johnny Cash, Marty Robbins, Carl Perkins, the Loovin Brothers and even the Young Elvis Presley. One reviewer said, of the Malpass Brothers’ experience, ‘These guys don’t just sound retro… they are retro.’ See the Malpass for yourself at our Vimeo channel.

Thursday through Saturday, February 26-28, Clayton Youth Theater presents Anatomy of Gray, by Jim Leonard. Set in the 1880s, but with a timeless theme, the play takes us through the humor and grief of the Muldoon family in Gray, Ind., and the events following the arrival of the mysterious Galen P. Gray, medical doctor. Gray presents the family with some hilarious situations and serious choices as he makes his home in the town that bears his name. The play is rated PG+ for mild language and tragic circumstances. Show times are at 7:30 PM. Clayton Youth Theater highlights the talent of area students, grades 7-12.

For tickets to the Malpass Brothers or CYT’s Anatomy of Gray, contact the box office Monday through Friday, 10 AM–Noon, and 1 PM-5 PM, at 919-553-1737. The Clayton Center, located in Johnston County, is convenient to Raleigh and southeastern Wake County, with easy access to Durham, Chapel Hill, Zebulon, and other parts of Orange, Durham, Harnett, Lee and Johnston Counties.
